About the Botina Family
Both Don Luis Botina and his wife, Sereida Portilla have both been coffee farming for over twenty- eight years. Their farm is in the small village of Tambillo, close to the town Sandona in the province of Nariño, Colombia. Don Luis was the local schoolteacher in Tambillo and, during his career, he started to buy micro-lots of coffee. Over time, he has become an expert in coffee farming and processing. This has gained him recognition from the Colombian Coffee Federation for his dedication to farming.
Continuing on journey of innvoation, the Cenicafe 1 varietal is one of Colombia’s newest coffee varietals. After 20 years of research it was launched in 2017, a hybrid of Caturra and Timor Hybrid 1343. A high yielding crop, the hope of Cenicafe 1 is a increased production for farmers, which in turn is essential for higher profitability of coffee farmers
Don Luis has since retired from teaching and now dedicates his time to farming. La Finca El Naranjo Agrio has 3.5 hectares separated into two micro-lots, one of which is Naranjo Agrio.
